Found Objects

February 1, 2018 12:00 pm - February 1, 2018 05:00 pm

The Found Objects show is up at Smithers Art Gallery from January 30-March 3, 2018! This is a community exhibition of artwork made from, or inspired by, found objects.

Please join us at the opening reception on Friday February 2, 7-9pm. Admission is free, all welcome.

‘Found Object’ - sometimes referred to as objet trouvé - describes art created from undisguised, but often modified, objects that are not normally considered materials from which art is made, often because they already have a non-art function. A found object can be natural or man-made, or a fragment of an object, that is found (or sometimes bought) and kept because of some intrinsic interest the artist sees in it. It may be treated as a work of art in itself, as well as provide inspiration for the artist. Found objects may be modified by the artist and presented as art, either more or less intact, or as part of an assemblage (art that is made by assembling disparate elements).
